I don’t like it when Christians make statements like “God don’t bless no mess.” I don’t like the phrase because a judgmental view of someone’s personal life or behavior usually follows it. The extremely obvious drift into being nosey or a prelude to gossip with the false notion that it’s not gossip, but concern. But even more than this, it’s not the truth. Yes, God blesses a mess because He blesses us.
We are born sinful. We come to the knowledge of Christ, and those who choose to receive salvation begin the journey of becoming holy. From salvation to holiness, we are a mess. And not everyone becomes transformed, so the forever carnal Christian is a messy mess.
But God loves us! As we struggle through some messy habits, mindsets, and behaviors, God is blessing us. No, He is not ignoring our sinful nature, but drawn towards our contrite hearts. And as we follow Him, and He dwells with and within us, He will bless our messy selves. Not only bless, but strengthen, empower, and love us throughout our transformation process.
Although a catchy phrase, I don’t believe “God don’t bless no mess”. Why? Because many of us in the body of Christ are a mess and He blesses us. So, let’s stop looking for the mess in others, focus on the mess in us, and allow God to turn our mess into miraculous healing and deliverance.
