You May Not Reap How You Sowed

Galatians 6:7-8    7 Make no mistake: God can’t be mocked. What you give is what you get. What you sow, you harvest. 8 Those who sow seeds into their flesh will only harvest destruction from their sinful nature. But those who sow seeds into the Spirit shall harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. (The Voice Bible. Bible Gateway, biblegateway.com, Accessed January 22, 2022.)

Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. Although the Bible teaches us that in this world hard times fall upon everyone it used to confuse me to hear bad people complain about their mishaps because the Bible also teaches Make no mistake: God can’t be mocked. What you give is what you get. What you sow, you harvest.  Are bad people unaware of the bad in them? Did they think that bad things happen to everyone and it’s just their turn when hard times arise, therefore not relevant to their behavior? Did they not know that sowing and reaping is a biblical principle, and biblical principles work where they apply?

But then it dawned on me that the issue is not the principle but understanding the principle. You see when a farmer sows a seed a crop is produced. In the natural, a particular seed produces a particular crop. For example, watermelon seeds produce watermelon and specific flower seeds produce a specific flower. With science or some other form of manipulation, you can create a grape that tastes like cotton candy, but the pattern is seed produces a specific item.  But this is natural.

When it comes to humans, we are spirit beings and natural laws don’t always apply. Meaning, you may not reap how you sowed. As spirit beings, the spirit world is the major factor in our everyday lives. God, angelic influences, and demonic spirits are taking notice of our activities. So, when we sow in gossip, we may reap financial stress. When we sow as a thief, we may reap in poor health. Let’s not get it confused, if we eat unhealthily and get sick, we can reap the results of our food choices. But as spirit beings what we sow does not always produce that specific result in our lives.

Those who sow seeds into their flesh will only harvest destruction from their sinful nature. We can’t say sowing gossip reaps being gossiped about even though in some cases it is true. We are spiritual beings so while sowing gossip about the neighbor’s marital problems we may reap the inability to procreate with our spouse. While sowing spiteful words to our spouse, we may reap being overlooked for a job promotion. In the spirit realm sowing and reaping becomes personal, and what is reaped is tailor-made to reach the heart of the who has sown.

We should all thank our heavenly Father for His grace and mercy. Our lives would be a wreck if we reaped every bad thing we sowed in the universe. But the same way everyone partakes of hard times, everyone also delights in good times. And for those who sow in the flesh reap from sin nature. But those who sow seeds into the Spirit shall harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. The Bible applies to us all, and whether we obey or disobey, the consequences are real.

Prayer:

Awesome Heavenly Father we are honored to be allowed in your kingdom. Please forgive us when we think more highly of ourselves by forgetting that our flesh is created from dust and returning to the dust. Help us not to lose focus and remind us that our main concern should be the eternal resting place for our soul. You are a merciful God whose grace and mercy are shown to us daily. We are grateful for your many blessings and repentant for our behavior. As the Holy Spirit continues to teach us how to develop the fruit of the spirit, we will become disciplined in the things that feed our spirit and starve our flesh.  And we will forever praise, worship, and glorify your name on the Earth.

In Jesus name,

Amen
